Chemong Lake is located 10 minutes North of Peterborough and is one of the three ‘Tri-Lakes’ of the Kawartha’s. You can boat between Bridgenorth, Buckhorn and Bobcaygeon without locking through. It’s proximity to Peterborough makes it an ideal lake for those seeking to retire by the water – it’s home to many permanent residences. Traditional cottages are becoming scarce as they are often purchased and demolished to make room for a larger waterfront home.
The lake itself is quite weedy with a soft, muddy bottom; it’s surrounded by many farms and is mostly a humanmade lake of flooded farm fields. The lake is traversed by a giant causeway roadway that leads into the village of Bridgenorth. There are some clean shorelines, and Chemong Lake does offer exceptional fishing as well as all-season recreation, including boating and snowmobiling. For those seeking a Canadian Shield experience., Chemong Lake is not the ideal choice. However, for avid boaters and fishermen, its an exceptional lake and an excellent cottaging choice.
